Wittel Dormitory is an historic landmark located just one block in front of Auburn Universitys Samford Hall at 205 South Gay Street. Ms. Linda Hallmark is the House Mom and her residence is located just inside the front left entrance.
There are three types of rooms available;
Double occupancy with a private bath
Double without a private bath
And single rooms.
If a roommate is requested, we will guarantee your pairing. All rooms include twin sized antique reproduction beds, a matching six drawer chest, desk and chair. Residents are welcome to bring any additional furniture needed. Wittel Dormitory features a computer room, 24-hour maintenance, 6 washer/dryers, a full kitchen, maid service weekly and a garden pool set in the garden.
Description
Wittel Dormitory, admired by students of American architecture as one of Auburns most significant examples of classical nineteenth-century designs, grows more dignified with age. The original three brick construction by Samuel S. Wittel in the early 1900s must have taken aback even the most sophisticated in Auburn when gossip circulated through town about its copper roof from England, garden pool surrounded by garden plants and the arrival of silver plate for the front entrance ceiling.
Wittel Dormitory continues today as Auburn''''''''''''''''s first female private dormitory. Residents enjoy a convenient location across the street from Auburn Universitys Samford Hall as well as an extraordinary opportunity to live in a designated historic landmark which was recently featured on "Tour of Homes" sponsored by the Auburn Heritage Association.
